Kestävä Kivitalo excursion to Tallinn
We participated in the excursion to Tallinn organized by Kestävä Kivitalo on September 4, 2025, at the invitation of Wienerberger.
After a tour of the Estonian Business School construction site, we explored high-quality brick projects outside Tallinn as well as in the central districts of Telliskivi and Rotermann.
At the Estonian Business School construction site, the most memorable aspects were the high quality of on-site construction and the technical expertise in slipform construction.
The playfulness of Saku Gymnasium’s wooden canopy combined with the simplified architecture of the brick facade formed a controlled and cozy environment and courtyard for the school’s students.
Mary Magdalene’s Church with its light brick cladding created a contrast to its surroundings in the middle of the Mustamäe suburb built in the 1960s and 1970s. The simplicity of the altar in the sanctuary and the illuminated stained glass wall of the altar wall stopped us with their beauty.
The new residential and commercial buildings in Kalarand, Telliskivi, and Rotermann create an interesting new urban landscape in the very center of Tallinn and the port area through their diverse appearances. The dialogue between new construction and old rustic industrial buildings repurposed for new uses creates an interesting and rich urban space. The renewed urban space of Telliskivi and Kalarand, surrounded by buildings ripe for demolition and those repurposed, is full of pulsating life!
